Does The Election Of Barack Obama Signal The Time For Change?
Now that Barack Obama is in the White House, it will be interesting to see whether the renewed interest in the political process will still be alive and well in the hearts of Americans. The fact that we elected our first African American president was significant, but we have yet to see if that interest will translate into anything long term.
It would benefit all Americans if that happened, because there’s been so much struggle for so long. Take for example, the plight of veterans. Many left parts of themselves on foreign battlefields and in some cases, they didn’t get the appreciation they deserved when they came back to America. That’s why I designed some free Veterans Day clip art that pays tribute to veterans. This veterans clip art is just a small way we can all show our support. That appreciation could mean the world to veterans who have been disenfranchised.
But we need to do more than just send annual Memorial or Veterans Day greeting cards. Our appreciation for them needs to be constant. Our veterans have earned it. If we don’t support them; who will?
Not only veterans would benefit, however, from the unification of our country. It would be wonderful to see people saluting the American flag when on parade, because they genuinely believe in what the flag stands for. Hopefully, that rush of feeling will help us unify.
At this moment, it’s up in the air as to whether this unification will come to be. Some people are already having a bad reaction to Obama’s proposed changes. But that’s just the way American politics works. Those checks and balances actually can help keep the process balanced. That’s the way it’s supposed to work anyway! We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and wait.
